User-Contributed Transcription -2-infant.  And ordinarily, in Dixie, the hazards of the game are somewhat mitigated by the fact that everybody watches the niggers - (A nigger would sooner steal than eat, ask any Southerner).  So I'd always figured, they're so busy watching the niggers they won't - but hold! - I thought, I'll bet they got the niggers watching me!  I looked about urbanely, unobtrusively, as I sauntered about the aisle, the picture of a jaded flaneur, a man who shops only for People Who Have Everything.  Sure enough, trailing behind me and about me, a veritable retinue of hired blackamoor spies, hares in the pay of the hounds.   Que voulez-vous, I said, the hell with it.   So it built up like, as you can judge for yourself.    I'm looking forward to the magazines, I've been reduced to reading those curiously depressing evangelistic things that rain down on jailbirds on every hand.  If somebody doesn't curb those people, they're going to bring back the Holy Roman Empire and the Pope will be lolling about Miami Beach.   With your permission, I'd like to put you on my mailing list when I reach the joint.   Your sprightly notes are a delightful tonic.  Incidentally I've been receiving some anonymous postcards from Chicago, sinister things.  I've turned them over to the people who are investigating the kidnaping [sic] of Marie McDonald.  La pauvre Marie, Quel horreur!ever, JimDuval County Jail   Jacksonville Fla
