Dear Jack: I am delighted to
get your [[work?]] Midland
Humor*. I shall enjoy every word
of it meeting up with some old
time friends & getting to know
some new ones. The [[?]] from
its Hardscrabble Rock Quarries
must have been a co[[?]] of
Paul Bunyan of Lumberland. A
pleasing & unique sketch.- I am
glad you have given old Ed Howe**
[horse?]] in your book. I have read
most every word the old codger
wrote in late years- his daily
remarks in the KC Star for
years- His monthly I was
able to read (He was on[?] am
near illegible writer) quite a
few letters from him. We
carried on a now & then correspondence
for several years. I sent him
one of your books. Of course
he would not agree with you.
He was [[?]] & often risque
but he spoke well
of your style. I gave
the letter to my
only sister & now that
she is dead I do not
know where it got to.
