Dear Bud:
Why I am writing
you after your panicky behaviour
over my other letters, is hard to
say. No it isn't either, it's simply
that I don't know anybody else.
I should have guessed that anything
as vulgar as somebody in jail
would put the wind up you far
fair, but I didn't dream you would
be so nit-shit as to refuse even
cigarettes.
Now you have a chance to
redeem yourself - As you may know
from the papers, I beat the rap,
and got a suspended sentence,
with the provision that I raise
the money for fare to Chicago (over)
