Dear Jack,

Early this thanksgving Day, I mentioned to Jeanette that Malcolm Cowley had written a piece for underlined:  The New Republic, "Reconsideration," in which he asked:  what books remain that can still be admired, looking back at the 1930's?
I looked  for him to mention "The Disinherited" "Tobacco Road,"  "Jews Without Money".
Not a peep.  Shallow, one-sided, academic.

How are things with you?
Still lecturing?
The autobiography?

I've finished the trilogy.   It's in the hands of Cronin.  I've also completed a book of short stories and have written to James Laughlin whether underlined:  New Directions would be interested.
Drop me a line or two, you Old Harp.

Our warmest to Gladys.
Sincerely, Ben
