User-Contributed Transcription Oct. 25.53.Dear Nelson - Thank you for the lift. It will enable me to maintain the proper financial relations with the sly Pat sach of evil who runs this charmed house. This thing unfolds as it goes along, quite interestingly - The head nurse is a West Virginia girl, muscled and athletic, looks like a whore somehow, who starts the day by reading aloud to the assembled workers from a book called "My Lord and I." Then the Assistant Head says a prayer. She is a drab sexless girl of uncertain age, with long teeth and muddy hair and skin. After this grisly rite, which leaves them close to tears, they begin to scatter demerol around the joint like it was fly spray. They have one villa here that is occupied exclusively by shattered play-boys, who stay knocked out all the time on one thing or another. O the wonders of the pharmacoepia.Tell David that his horticultural effort has been my staff and my rod in this time of trial. I stroll after work by the bayou and turn it on, and all is suddenly afloat. My congratulations to David. Perhaps you'd better show him that Gary Post-Tribune, before he gets any ideas.I won't have anything bad said about V. [Bourjaille?]. He likes my stuff, he must know what he's about. Consider, though, Gilbert Highet and his petulant attack on Andre Gide. Highet has been touted as the greatest, but in the Gide article, he sounds like Woollcott with religion. (over)
