Dear Doctor,
These few lines, somewhat like many dispatches in the daily papers, should be marked "delayed" would have been mailed earlier, but it was only this morning that I learned by the Tribune route, that you had passed the 25th milestone in the life of "The Commons."
Please accept my belated congratulations; I know full well the value of the great, and thoroughly disinterested work you have done in such quiet and unostentions [[sp.]] fashion; and hope that your life and strength may be prolonged for many years to continue in the course of that best method of Americanization which I have witnessed being practiced by you
