My Dear Dr Graham Taylor: -
I was pleased to recieve your letter and invitation of the 18th. And how I would like to be able to be with you on the 24th!
The letter brought to mind many pleasant recollections of pioneer days at the Commons. It has not been my good fortune to have seen the present quarters. But the picture of the old frame structure at 140 N. Union always stands forth. And I usually begin thinking when I left off being at the Commons.
It was just 24 yrs. ago yesterday - if my memory serves me right - The good people of the house had all started for morning worship, save "a father in Israel" and a son of the Commons, who tarried at the head of the winding stairs, for a last word of fellowship and farewell, which was also satisfied with prayer, as the son was to go forth on the morning into the big world, to try practic on a long suffering rural community, the things he had learned in the big city and also to endeavor to live worthy of his ancestry.
Then as I pass this sacred scene, there came trooping into memory the names and faces of [[?]] and Halines, Stetson, Wellman & wife, Robinson & wife, and the then pastor of old Tabernacle, B.F. Baller and family and others, sixteen of us in all in those days.
Nor will I forget the time when the Cooks got sick, and the women of the "family" got tired of doing the work
