User-Contributed Transcription number of my old friends seriously doubt if I am naturally qualified for such a social work as I have been desiring to do. I don't know it myself either; but all I know is that my soul was fascinated by the beautiful spirit & noble purpose of the Settlement's work, and I have a strong & uncontrollable desire to engage in it myself. But the trouble is that I have no natural means to start it even to support myself, and it is extremely hard for the present to call out enough interest & sympathy from my friends for the work of this kind to have them support it. So if I should engage in this work, I must do something else to get my bread.
Here I wish to mention another advice concerning myself, and it is that of my father in law. He thinks
