Summary Ms. patent of nobility, dated Dec. 3, 1568 in Granada, granted to Luis, Bernardino, Rodrigo, and Baltasar de Rueda, brothers residing in Carmona (Seville, Spain). The petition is presented on Sept. 18, 1553 before the Audiencia judges and the "alcaldes de hijosdalgo" for the city of Carmona by Gonzalo Ruiz de Aguado, attorney for the Rueda brothers.  The state's attorneys in the case are Dr. Gaspar de Navarrete, "procurador fiscal", and Dr. Ramírez. Included in the text of the document are the 12 questions put to the witnesses summoned on behalf of the Ruedas: Juan de Lorca, Alonso Boga, and Cristóbal Martín, residents of Carmona; Fernando de Veas, constable of the town council of Carmona, Juan de Toledo, notary public of Carmona, and Juan de Marchena, cleric of the church of Santa María in Carmona. There is also a second, shorter interrogatory addressed to additional witnesses: Pero Sánchez de Sigüenza and Juan Pérez of Sigüenza; Fernán Sánchez Barbero of Villa Laín, and Sister María de Mendoza of the convent of Santa María de Belén. A preliminary judgment in favor of the Ruedas, dated Nov. 23, 1558 by Licenciados Gamboa, Mancanedo, and Diego de Zúñiga, is challenged in 1566, but reaffirmed May 6, 1567.  The "sentencia definitiva" or final decision is issued Dec. 3, 1568, and acknowledged and registered by town officials in Seville on Feb. 7, 1569.
