Description
Righting the overturned Eastland in the Chicago River on August 13 or 14, 1915. Helping in the efforts is Michigan, one of the Great Lakes Towing Company's tugboats, is at the stern of the Eastland. By the end of August 13, the Eastland had been raised to a 73-degree angle but was still unable to float. Shortly before noon on August 14, the Eastland had been raised to 80 degrees and was able to float. Printed caption on the back of the postcard reads, "The Eastland righted to an angle of 70. In the background the powerful tug, Favorite, is shown with its stern partly submerged under the strain of lifting the boat back to an even keel." Postcard published by Max Rigot Selling Company, Chicago, Illinois.
