Description
Gordon writes to his mother frequently during the 1931-32 school year. Pearl is obviously not well, but she manages to send Gordon some much appreciated Thanksgiving boxes (presumably food and other goodies). After spending the Christmas holidays in Evanston, Gordon returns to school in Pottstown and Pearl heads to Palm Springs to recuperate. Gordon's school work becomes more challenging that spring when he learns he can take his college board exams and graduate a year early (next spring). Theatre, politics, and religions interest him| the 16-year-old informs his mother that he is "gradually becoming a socialist."
