December 10, 1913/
My Dearest Emma,

Many thanks for yours of Dec. 4th, just recd. You must not get too busy, or you will be all tired out, when you start for Cal. We came here yesterday & find this hotel much enlarged. Hayden is much pleased with this hotel & thinks it more attractive than any other in S. Cal. We rode up to the top of the mountain near by this A.M. This P.M. I am resting, but the others are all out. I wish to take a long ride tomorrow to Redlands & on to Oak Glen in the mountains & return here for the night -- so am resting up for it. Good sleep last night -- only a little wakeful. Yesterday I recd. word of Mr. Deering's death. I am very sorry I cannot be at the funeral &| I trust that you will so advise Mrs. Deering if opportunity offers &| also that you will change your custom & attend Mr. Deering's funeral. We return to Pasadena Saturday. Hayden & Lina join in very much love & I will be very glad to see you Dec. 23.
