Muriel Bent Harris was born on August 18, 1890, the daughter of George P. Bent and Clara Ames Wingate. She married Stanley Gale Harris on June 26, 1913.

Muriel had six siblings: Clara "Winnie" Wingate Bent (born March 10, 1877), George Henry Bent (born October 11, 1878), Charity Mary Bent (born May 23, 1884), Dorothy Amelia Bent (born April 5, 1893), Charles Matchett Bent (born August 25, 1895), and Barbara Bent (born November 28, 1899).

Muriel's sister "Winnie" married Ernest Meikle, whose sister Harriet Meikle married Albert Wadsworth Harris.
