Summary Scrapbook and journal of E.A. Richardson regarding activities of the Office of the Quartermaster General, Washington, D.C. Journal entries, dated 20 November 1865-7 December 1868, cover daily activities and meetings at the office, interactions between Richardson and her colleagues, and parties held in Georgetown in 1867. Contains manuscript verses throughout, some of which may have been submitted to the Atlantic and other literary magazines, as well as clippings of printed verses from contemporary magazines. A pencil and ink drawing of a "plan of office with position of each desk and name of occupant, 'Art Building', Washington, D.C., summer of 1865" and three pencil and ink drawings signed "L.S.H." are mounted in the book. Also includes the autographs of the employees of the Office of the Quartermaster General in 1866, including that of Garaphelia B. Howard, West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, to whom Walt Whitman inscribed a copy (held by the Newberry Library) of the first issue of his Drum-taps (1865).
