User-Contributed Transcription Chicago April 5th .57Dear Aunt Everett: Most assuredly I am in fault in not answering your very kind letter. At the time, we were looking daily for intelligence from father. Two gentlemen of our "mother country" left this City about the time father did. -- they were located just previous to their leaving "The El Dorado" within a few miles from where they were -- They brought letters with them as far as Canada there by accident they were lost. after the lapse of a few weeks we received information they were found (in this said parcel were forty letters for different individuals in this place) -- This I give as an excuse for not writing -- we now have them, they came last week -- Since then we have had a long letter from father bearing date Jan. 20 Nevada City where he first located himselfThe fatigue of the journey to-gether with ill health induced him to go into the meat business finding it also very profitable for that time -- he put up a small house such as we would term shanty, seting one end asid for sleeping apartment
