There it lives a mass of imperishabletruth. But ours, the second declaration of independenceis yet open for signitures. All are now invitedto entre their names. Our foe will soon sneak awayto his hiding place, and then our declaration ofindependence���independence not of Americathose few magic words with it���millions of signituresbut of the world, will also be sealed, and setby its brother in the temple of immortality to be thewonder and admiration of generations yet unborn.Mr President, if I had never signed thetemperance pledge I should wish to do it on the4th of July, that when the years rolled aroundand brought the birth day of my country���s freedomI might also be reminded of my own effort tosecure my own and millions of my fellows freedom.A noble deed we could not do in reverence to thosevenerable patriotic fathers. Let those of us who havesigned the pledge united again in holy covenant and saygive us liberty of give us death.
