User-Contributed Transcription side, as much as to say, "You go in, I'll watch, you need not be afraid, I will let you know if there is any danger. After standing around for quite a while, she too went in, but I did not venture to shut their door that night or several nights after till it was quite dark & they asleep. There is another pullet of the same lot, dressed a little more gaily, in black and gold, which reminds me a good deal of May so I call her May No. 2. Ask William if he has any chickens so cunning as ours? These you remember have shifted for themselves since they were a month old. We have another lot five or six weeks old whose mother, a buff Coshin, stays with them. One evening she went with them to the coop. Jennie & I were sitting in the door near by and wondering if they were not hungry as she had not fed them for some time. Pretty soon one of them, a Plymoth Rock, picked her way to where we were, as much as to say, "We havent had our supper yet." So Jennie got up, and the little thing followed her till they all had something to eat.
