User-Contributed Transcription early potatoes along, and give our opportunity & plant the late ones. They intended to plant them the last of May on 1st of June, but it has been too dry. We hope that this rain will start the millett It has been too dry for it to start. There are 20 acres of it. Hope it will come now. This is German's birthday, 19 & wish I had something for a present for him. Think we will send to town for a Tablet which with a package of envelopes & a few pens will be something. Being alone in the world, he has no one else to think of such things for him. We want to send to N.Y. for our bonus & perhaps to her will get a bible for him as he has none wonder if our boy is at home now. We had a nice letter for him written the morning often oration. He is very thoughtful to remember
