User-Contributed Transcription Sketches by the Wayside.I feel sad and lonely to-night, likeshrinking away from human society, andseeking the soothing companionship ofnature. How I should like to take a quietstroll in the fields, where birds are wontto sing merry songs to their floral auditors, the lovely blossoms of the ground. Butas it is too late and cold to admit of myramble, and wintry wind and snow havelong ago driven birds and flowers to warmerregions, I must remain by the fire, consolingmyself with reminicences of past wanderings. ___ One time I remembervividly, I was accompaning my Fatheron a journey to Webster Hill. We rode overrough roads and smooth -- past level,fresh-looking meadows, and high, rugged hills. At one time, almost holding our breath with delight, as we gazed upon some singularlybeautiful landscape, portions ofwhich, the fleeting clouds o'erhead partlyobscured from the suns rays, causingthe light and shade sweetly to blend, -again gleefully laughing in our hearts.
