User-Contributed Transcription interesting to note that Huneker ranks Conrad as one of the five greatest novelists of the world, the others being Flaubert, Tolstoy, Dostoievsky, and Turgeniev. (three Russians!). If you have not read The Nigger of the Narcissus you should, to see how a storm at sea can be described. William Beebe writes scientifically accurate description that is also wonderfully beautiful. You will find a great deal of his stuff in the bound volumes of the "Atlantic Monthly" (some of it's in book form, too.) Hudson is very very good, but you already know that.
