User-Contributed Transcription Whitestown Sem., Oct. 30, 1862.Dear Father,Your letter has just come to hand. If you were of the same opinion as I about the draft you would not want me to avoid it. I think I should go as soon as anybody, and I am willing to go, as far as I myself am concerned, but I know I should comply with your wishes. Mr. Gardner has given notice that those who desire to avoid the draft should get certificates of him before the 3d of November. I will see him about it in the morning. And I will meet you at the cars Monday morning.With regard to provisions, I have just finished the bread and butter. I bought a pound of butter last night
