User-Contributed Transcription 2learned from the papers Cousin J. Edward was here only from morning till night. He has a bad cold and I wanted he should stay longer but his trunks were at the depot and he was anxious to be off. He wrote me from Ypsilanti and said he was much better, was to preach for Holden Sabbath evening and had just recived notice of an appointment for him to preach at Merrill the following Sabbath. This I know interfered with his plans, for he expected to see you the week he left here, certainly the week after. I do not know what changed his mind about preaching. He merely said he decided one evening to do it, and as he did not say more I thought he might dislike to talk about it, and so of course I kept still. I do not believe he sees his way clearly, but perhaps he will by & by.
