"William Evans Park" August 8, 1888My dear cousins All As we put our things together to come to this pleasant place to "pick nick" for the day the thought of you and of how nice it would be if you were here to go with us induced me to put a pad in the buggy and a pencil in my pocket so that I could begin a little talk with you. You have heard that Sam and I are here but will no doubt be surprised that we still linger. He with Janes young people came to the woods early this morning bringing the hammocks and rope from a swing which we put up in grand order. Then we cut hemlocks boughs making two thick beds upon which lap robes are spread, upon one of these Anna is lying now. Jane and Mrs. Hadellesen visiting with her. Eddie & Frank are swinging the girls and children -- little Lewis is here, while Sam. & Ettie are entertaining each other on the other hemlock seat. We came at noon so as to eat our dinner here, a cold one of course, but wewritten sideways on topTwo weeks ago last Sunday Eddie talked in the Temperance Gospel Meeting and in the eve preached at ____ I went with him and was much pleased to hear him do so well. Mrs. Hughes has come to the woods to call on us so I must go and visit a little later. A storm threatening we hastily picked up our effects and stated for home getting to Jane's as the rain began to fall. We stayed to tea. had a good sing and got home by dark none the worse for the day in the woods. Perhaps we slept a little sounder because we were tired . I hoped to get the signatures of all the party to this, but in the hurry forgot it.
