made glad & surprised at the same time by seeing Mary Mold enter with a man, who we guessed at once was her Father -- he is so like and yet unlike his brothers -- well we had a very nice visit. They stayed till Saturday afternoon and I went with them to Lewis, Cousin Robert wanted to spend Sunday with Lewis, who would be at home. They had been there one night before. He looks very well, I did not learn what his plans are -- he likes the country in the summer, but oh the winters he does not like, he was at Jane's before coming down. Thinks your house is suffering by being left empty, and says that it would be better for you to have a tenant even though you gave them the house rent free -- and that if you do not think of going back there to live it would be better to sell much of the stuff in house and barn while it is saleable.
