User-Contributed Transcription dreadful riots. I was out haying when the new came. It was exaggerated at first, of course, and the report was there that 600 were killed and wounded. There must have been great mismanagement and cowardice on the part of the government, or it never could have happened. I wish sometimes that I could live in New York, but such scenes at that would take away the pleasure. I wish that one or more of you could come back with father and mother when they come. It would be the next best thing to going out there and seeing you. I was telling Lizzie yesterday that when I finished my college course I meant to take her and go out there. Perhaps we may sometime. Give my love to Grandpa and Grandma and all of the aunties, including yourself. Your Aff. nephew, John H. Butler.
