Dear Mr. Conroy,
After going through mountains of folklore material, I came across your Slappy Hooper story in Botkin's Treasury of American Folklore. Slappy! to me seems a "natural" for juvenile story treatment.
However, there are a few problems with which I should appreciate your help. I have been unable to find other Slappy Hooper stories describing the great man's prowess. The Botkin incidents are excellent - but too few. Is there material about; could you direct me to it? Is it considered "ethical" to make up one's own folklore should added material be necessary? Last of all, am I trespassing on your domain - if not, may I have your blessing on the project.
