Dear Jack,

Pardon pencil scribble, but is hill folks hain't much on them new fangled writin' type contraptions; us is more for the old fashioned pushin' pencil and shoutin' religion. Besides, my poor last ribbon is now weak and anemic, which necessitates slapping a key twice to get one legible impression.

"Now, what in hell ever induced this guy to write me?" you ask.

O.K. sit down and behave and I'll tell you. It's the Christmas number of the Chicago Sun "Book Week." When I got it I naturally looked for your contribution. Was somewhat apprehensive upon locating finally 'way in the back. But upon reading it I assure you I experienced genuine pleasure.

"Same old Jack Conroy." I told myself. "Always class conscious, and always true to his proletarian  convictions. I might have expected a picture of Christmas  in a dingy coal mining town, but I wish it were longer."

And - association of ideas -  this basically lead to another thought, and I speculated upon whether you have ever done anything on
