Creator Feuillet, Raoul-Auger, 1659 or 1660-1710
Date 1752
Language German
Subjects Country-dances (Music), Dance, Dance music, Dance notation
Summary Ms. copy, dated 1752 in Vienna, of Raoul-Auger Feuillet's Chorégraphie, translated into German by Gottfried Taubert, and arranged by Philip Gumpenhueber. Feuillet's innovative system of dance notation, popular in Europe throughout the 18th century, replaced verbal description with symbols to notate the dancer's steps and floor patterns. Topics discussed and diagrammed include the dancer's posture and manner of walking; dance positions and their variations; explanation of how to interpret the symbols used in diagramming the dance movements; and dance tempos and rhythms.
