Dear Mr. Anderson-

In Chicago a few days ago Mr. Sergel told me about your Winesberg play, and said he thought i would be interested in what you were doing. I am, because for a long ti,e I have wondered if you were the sort of man who could go into the theater without worrying about "dramatic technique', write a play as subjective as your best books are- wondered, too, if you would think me a busy body even to ask you about such matters.

But judging from what Sergel said, I take it that you might care to let me see your MS? My interest in it is twofold: first as literary adviser to Samuel French, which firm would I think like to publish it, but mon especially as a critic. You probably don't know that for some years I've made it my job to encourage some of the younger fellows who are changing our theater from a gaudy show house into a place where self-respecting writers may say something & that among the men who interest me most are Paul Green, Lynn Riggs, Virgil Geddes, George O'Neil, and Albert Bein.
