This morning I put bread crumbs and water out and soon had your kinds of birds around. Most people don't like grackles but they're very interesting to me. If they get a crust on stable bread they dip it in the water so they can break it up. I also had wren and killdeer. The mockingbird keeps to himself in the backyard. He has his own feeding station there. Luise tells me that Wiggles got over his injuries. For months he held his head to one side. She thought it was because he had the injured eye but even that has im- proved. He has a special place on the sec- tional couch. It's the one facing T.V. you can imagine he has competition. If it's one of the family he simply attacks and they have to move. But one day a stranger came and sat down where Wiggles wanted to sleep. He paced back and forth giving the man his one-sided look. Finally he jumped on the couch and, gently, clawed the man's arm.
