User-Contributed Transcription who had been stealing his neighbour's chickens. I asked him how he managed to do such a neat job with so many people near by. He said, "nevah yo mind, Boss, Don't try to learn how to steal chickens. Yo can get away with all the rascality yo want to by sticking to the bench wha yo all belong" etc. and more to the same effects. His talk was supposed to give us hints on civic betterment but I don't know of a single hint that he let drop. He spoke of the ballot for women in a very lordly fashion as though he himself had presented us with the 'privilege' as he called it. I regard it as a right, not a privilege.
Put up three quarts of tomatoes yesterday. I think there will be some to can next week too. Scrubbed the floor this morning and made a lemon cream pie this afternoon. This is the first I ever attempted and it looks very nice.
I think I will do the floor myself after this. Max mopped it Sunday but it didn't look very well. Wish I could see you. Write to me soon.
Ever so much love, Katharine.
