Dearest Katharine:

I was delighted to receive your letter yesterday, especially because I was beginning to wonder whether you were ill.  Fortunately, I remembered that this was your vacation season and that an interruption in your ordinary routine might easily delay a letter.

Your news certainly is good. It must have been an immense relief to [max] to have work again, and I surly hope it will be permanent.  I admire Malcom's pluck in taking the heavy work in concrete through the hot days, and am sure the experience will be of use to him.  There is something of a revival in building here and most of it is in concrete.  They are reviving the old Spanish architecture that had its start with adobe as the material, and concrete can be adapted to beautiful architecture in this style.

There is practically no news to write of my own doings. My life is placid now.  Have not done much serious reading during the hot spell.  One of the radio stations here has extended its hours for classical music, which I am just beginning to appreciate, and I get a great deal of enjoyment from this. Enjoy it much more than the average cinema,
