User-Contributed Transcription 12-11-56 Darling Tafern            I saw "War and Peace" yest'y aft - Left home by cab at 1:45 decd walked home with the street lights burning just before 6: A play that is one of the 2 or 3 greatest I've ever seen - I guess you probably recall my stories of the - Napoleonic Wars that Mother had told us about, and I couldn't help comparing them to the sufferings of the French soldiers on their retreat from burning Moscow. Hope you see it and think Max would like it too. On my way home in passing the apts where Miss Slaughter and Mrs. Catlin live, Mrs. C. came running out to greet me and walked with me to the corner. She and, Miss S. were planning to go last evening, and I assured her they would get many thrills. She wondered why I was downtown that time of day! Last Friday aft. Mrs Krause called. She walked both ways and amazes me at her recovery. She said the Episcopal rector who has been here at least 2 years, has gone to Sanford and didn't come over to see her - "Well," she said "I'm not much for church anyway. They don't know
