WASHINGTON STREET ROOM 505 GUY UNDERWOOD, ACTING STATE SEC'Y MAY WALDEN, STATE CORRESPONDENT  ON NATIONAL COMMITTEE: ADOLPH GERMER  JOHN C. KENNEDY  DUNCAN MCDONALD] Rockford, Sunday morning. Dear Children, I am sitting out on the front porch at Mr. Hudler's where I can see lots of trees and blue sky and hear the squirrels bark and see them scamper around.  There are lots of Italians in this neighborhood, so the air is somewhat tainted with the smell of garlic or onions or both and they go by chattering like monkeys. today is a big day for them and there is an Eyetalian band here from Chicago.  I have canvassed diligently, but find few socialists. All of the women will vote against the saloons, this, with the exception of a half dozen or so that I have talked with.  I have sold about 85 cents worth of literature thus far - one 25 cent book and the rest, my pamphlets, 2 for 5 cents. so you may know how rich I am going to be.  But I have another week, and things may be better.  I am staying with lovely people. The comrades pay all my carfare and other expenses, so I am not losing anything except wear and tear on clothes. But we should worry! Aunt Ida sent me - or her niece in Bennet, Nebraska - sent me that pair of shoes that Aunt Ida spoke about, and they just fit, so I shall
