Dear Bro
Your Letters of Sept. 23 & Nov 22d with invitation to [[4s?]] Ball together with Fathers & Uncle S.W.S letters of Aug 23d & Fathers of Nov 23d have all been received and perused by me with that pleasure which can be enjoyed by one who hears from Home once in two months. Your first letter gave me quite a Surprise as I had made up my mind that you could not find time to address a few lines to me from the fact of your having so much business as not to be able to leave it. Ere this reaches you Hank & my "partners" across the Plains will have reached Home & no doubt will tell you many Strange tales beleive them not in anything they may tell of our journey across the plains or of their doings after their arrival in Cala. The day we landed in the diggings Hank & myself Settled with them and we each took our own Course we never have met them Scince that time There is tales told of them that Should not be told of "honest" men of their transactions in the mines. You need not let these few hints pass farther than our own family for if ever I return home or Hank you may be able to gain more particulars take
