Dear Mr. Turkin:
Because of bad health I will
not be able to perform Britten's
Symphony for cello and orchestra
this summer as per contract.
I am now so fat, 350 lbs., that
three doctors and my wife have
been begging me to take off the
entire summer and go on a
reducing plan.
However, as four other cellists
will be taking off from Ravinia
for four to the whole eight weeks,
I feel it is my responsibility
to play the entire season.
