Dear Walter
We returned to New York this evening and were advised by Nelly Walter that she has had no reply from you to her letter of May 3rd and that as far as Columbia concerts is concerned our contract still stands. She advised me to send you the program we would like to play.
It would be impossible to tell you how disappointed I am by the whole confusing situation. I was born in Chicago and lived there until I was 20. I have a vast family who live there still as well as hundreds of friends there none of whom can understand why we have never appeared with the Chicago Symphony since we have appeared with practically every major orchestra here and in Europe. (Nor can I understand it!)
In the last 6 years we have been soloists with the NY Philharmonic 12 times, 4 with Mitropoulos and 8 with Bernstein and now we have the had the [[?]] honor of being chosen to give one of the three recitals to be given in the gala opening week of the
