Description Correspondence, photographs, reports, and publicity relating to the Ravinia Festival, a summer music festival held at Ravinia Park in Highland Park, Illinois, since 1904 (non-continuous).
User-Contributed Transcription with Mr. Eckstein gave them to John and me (Louise). Even in the early years we four after talked about how important it was that someone should be keeping notes of all the exciting things in the operatic world that was happening right there in Ravinia. Many of The stars preferred Ravinia to Europe or South america
Mr. Eckstein and Art went to New York every winter and I think they went to the Met every night. Listening to every new singer was important and planning what operas could be transplanted to Ravinia's small stage. Signing contracts with stars and [[seconary?]] stars, chorus, directors, conductors arranging for transportation of props and musical scores; it was a tremendous responsibility as some of the letters show.
