Description
Correspondence, writings, documents of Nathan Kendall and wife Abby J. Reed Kendall of Massachusetts, Indiana and Illinois, including many letters to each other before and after marriage in 1857, as well as numerous letters to and from members of their families, friends and former students. Some correspondence and documents concern travel to California begun in 1849.

and as it rolls majestically through the rocky glen and barren waste it gives fertility to all around causing the "desert to bloom as the rose" and though it parts with some of its properties yet it becomes mightier in the language of another "its light is none the less for lighting its neighbors." Nature whispers to it of the triumphs of knowledge and its glorious achievements. As time hastens on it continues to increase enriching and purifying the soul of man as does the water fertilize the earth and aid him in procuring the necessaries of life. When is has reached this point, its grandeur is almost indescribable and soon another and another mighty current comes rushing in to swell it as the new streams increased the original waters. How profound has its placid current become since it started for now its sphere is not limited to a few individuals but it flows on without restraint benefitting all mankind. The mind also resembles the waters in being beautiful for what is more worthy of admiration than a well stored mind adorned with all necessary attractions. It is as much more lovely than anything mortal as are those shining orbs that roll in silent majesty through the arched canopy of heaven
