but I think I have enumerated enough for my present purpose. From whom do we receive all these blessings? A Being whom we do not love and adore? I fear too many can answer yes. Yet it must be owing to a want of perception when so much unmistakable evidence is before us. It is the nature of man to worship some Being for the heathen who know nothing of revelation worship dumb animals or some inanimate object, but man has perverted his nature and it is for this he is to blame. The more intellectual portion of the community are not in fault but in comparing the religious with the irreligious we compare the respectable and more intelligent with the degraded and ignorant and that the cause of this difference is their religion is evident. A celebrated writer says "On every page of the Christian revelation it is clearly written, or implied, that our religion is final; that it furnishes the true law of individual growth and the only code of social progress and perfection Its promise is to furnish for the world a system of universal education". If it promise a universal education surely it must be plain and easily comprehended. Therefore I conclude that those who in this age of light and knowledge are not able to see the dependence of man on a Supreme Being and feel that to Him is due all honor, love, and praise must necessarily be deficient in the perceptive region or destitute of feeling any impressions however forcible.
