27is a small stream, made somewhat larger by "Flores Creek" which unites with it near its mouth forming a "Lagoon" or Lake of about three miles in length and one in width This Lake is enlarged at the present time by the mouth of the River being barred up, but it is never shut up very long at one time, for the accumulating waters above soon forces a passage through the sand to the Ocean, Upon these streams there is some valley land, and also some settlements, "Flores Creek" derives its name from Fred Flora, a young man from Oregon whose acquaintance I had the honor to make at Port Oxford in 1851 Passing these Streams you enter Curry County and after following the beach a short distance, the route seemed to be obstructed by Rocks &c and percieving [sic] a trail leading up the bluffs to the left which led to the southward, paralel [sic] with the Coast over a level barren looking country . sandy soil, scattering spruce - pine timber when at a distance of about five miles, the trail led down a gradual descent of about 1/4 mile to Sixes River a Stream of about 100 yds in width, the trail led down to its mouth about 1/4 mile where I forded over to the south side, at this place it is not over ten yds wide and nearly barred up, there are few settlers on this River and a limited
