Capt W. W. Chapman recruiting in our neighborhood had authority to enlist a few men for home protection: and although it appeared to me like a burlesque, yet being anxious to make up his Company he enlisted me in his command Of course it was not expected that I was to be called upon to perform any duty or to ever report myself to head quarters.
