User-Contributed Transcription 50about 50 yds wide, with a gravel ridge about two thirds the way across, which extends up stream about 200 yds, could see no place where the Road left the River on the opposite bank, Whereupon I made for the gravelly Island, I found the water deeper than the other fords below, it was so deep and rapid that I came near being swept down stream, it was with dificulty [sic} that I could keep my place in the saddle, finally landed on the lower extremity of the gravel bed, and upon this I rode up and down for some time before I could discover any place where the Road left it, or any place where my horses could land if I should swim them, at last from the extreme upper end of the bar, I saw a place some little distance upstream that had the appearance of the Road, I crossed to the shore by angling upstream about 30 yds this channel was belly deep and very rapid From this crossing the road is over rough and uneven ground for five miles when you come to a Rapid Creek of 10 ft in width rushing down out of the Mts with its bottom covered with large round boulders, over which a violent current is rushing, thus forming a bad crossing for horses, one quarter mile from this, the trail leads over a point called "Point Lookout" where the mountain terminates very abruptly in a perpendicular height of 100 feet, an accumulated mass of loose rock &c has been deposited at the foot of the Cliff extending to the Rivers edge, which is but few feet from it, and this accumulated mass of a few feet lies in an angle of 45 and over this the trail has been made
