65farm houses, nearly every one of which is surrounded by an Orchard in full bloom, forming a locality the most beautiful seen in Oregon; At that distance came to the Coast Fork, which I crossed in a skiff this stream is fifty yds wide and unites with the Willamette some four miles below, the two rivers can be traced by the line of timber bordering them, which consists principally of Cottonwood From this place to Eugene City the Road leads through some level prarie, but as you near the city it runs over over [sic] rolling land timbered with Oak, among which you will see handsome farms and farm houses until you reach the suberbs [sic] of the City where I arrived at about two P.M. My shoulder had become painful from walking and I made direct to the most convenient Hotel to obtain rest before I sought out a Surgeon to perform the operation of putting things right Being a Stranger in this town, and not knowing who to consult, I asked the advice of several and was in every instance, referred to Dr Ramsey upon whom I called, as soon as I felt able to do so He immediately pronounced my shoulder out of place and torn loose from the Collar bone, and the Collar bone also broken, and immediately made preparations to replace them. I was first seated upon the floor with by back to the wall, and laying hold of my arm, with his foot under the Armpit, he asked the assistance of several individuals to assist him; when all was ready they sprang back with a force that I thought would tear my arm off, and did not slaken [sic] [crossed out: until] for a few moments, when position was changed
