User-Contributed Transcription [letter with margins covered up, reproduced on top of page 132, transcribed on next page]Gentlemen Sirs: The proposed beneficiary here mentioned, Mr. Williams [?who was?] one of the unfortunate sufferers who [?was?] overpowered and defeated at Port Orford on the 21st September 1851. The [?wounds?] which he then received have wholly disa[bled] him from the performance of duties w[hich] are requisite to obtain the Comforts and necessaries of life. Therefore we the [under]signed do most cheerfully extend [the] claims of M. Williams upon the sympath[ies] of his fellows, and add opposite to our names our humble testimonial of that duty to others which we may sooner or later stand in need.Scottsburg Dec. 23. 1851.Paid B.
