Brother Henry
Your letter containing the draft of $21, was duly received, and you may tell our Mother and the other donors, to whose benevolence I am indebted for the money, that from my soul I thank them. They can hardly tell how much good a little money does, situated as I am, you may think it madness in me, in making myself responsible to secure the erection of a church, but if you were aware of the absolute necessity of having some building wherein our people may meet for religious and educational purposes, you would say that I am right. In fact I think I hear you say that I am right now, for some one must make a start, to bring any thing to pass. The people here will do what they can, but they positively cannot contribute much money, for they have it not. I intend to quarry the stone myself, with the assistance of those disposed to help me. I have money to pay the mason for putting up the walls ready for the roof, that will have to be paid in cash. Then I have disposed of two Town shares
