User-Contributed Transcription 243 visible,, which is about one fourth of a mile wide, and has the appearance of a pretty sheet of Clear, deep water, surrounded by high abrupt Mountains; we travelled around to the west side of the foot of the Lake, built a Raft for Navigation tomorrow, killed a large Elk for Supper, and Camped After Calculating our distance we found ourselves about 13 Miles from the Mouth of the Creek in a course about S.S.E. which located the Lake about 8 or 10 Miles nearly due south from Hatfields prarie, Our Courses were carefully taken with a pocket Compass, and every distance carefully estimated, and for further reference see Map on page 224 Elk, Bear, Beaver & Otter appear to be very plenty, deer are not as plenty as in other localities nearer the settlements.
