233Sunday July 21st Daniel Test left us this Morning for his home in Umpqua, having only engaged to accompany us this far.. I regretted his departure very much. for he was one of our best Men, but as the Country is open the balance of the distance, and the Cattle have become so accustomed to driving. that we will not likely have much more dificulty [sic] in driving..Left Camp at 10 A.M. and reached "Tyghe" Creek and Camped 4 or 5 miles below the ford day hot and rosd dustyMonday July 22dDay hot. Cattle drove badly, reached the bluffs of "Des Chutes' River.. Swam our Cattle at the old Ferry landing about 1/4 Mile below the Bridge. Camped on the opposite Side of the River, on a Small branch putting in at this placeTuesday July 23dAscended the Bluffs and soon reached the Muddy spring five miles from this where we found water for our own use but none for out Stock, stopped here until late in the P.M. and then set out and at Midnight, camped at the Spring in the long hollowWednesday July 24thLay in Camp
