Pine, Fir & Oak, which extends to the top of the hills, you then leave timber and at one mile from this, cross a small branch of Stinking water running W. This water is cold and good to drink but smells bad, About 2 m from this passed two or three little Springs. and passing these a short distance, discovered Quartz boulders in abundance scattered promiscuously over the plain, Some of these were beautifully crystalized. This being a sightly place, I camped for the night with Mt Hood N.W. Mt Jefferson S. W. and the "three sisters" S. 10 W. all in full view, with secondary peaks and old craters innumerable, particularly in the vicinity of Mt Jefferson, and the "Sisters"
