E thence over a Sandy barren with Scattering Juniper and an abundance of Sage brush for 1 m to the Bluffs, which are 5 or 600 ft high from the top of which, the trail leads off S. over beds of broken volcanic rock, for 6 or 7 m to the chasm of "Rush Creek" which is about 400 ft deep, and like others, perpendicular at the top The trail leads to the right along these bluffs for � m to a break in the walls down which it descended by a rough and rocky descent, to the narrow bottom upon the creek, this creek is about a yd in width, runs E. and has a small growth of Birch, Alder & Willow upon it Upon this I camped for the night, with a perfect knowledge that I was within the Range of the much dreaded Snakes, the terror of this whole country
